Motorized Bicycles have Product Identity Issues

photo (8)

Check out this brand new motorized bicycle. Looks like it has a major identity crisis. Is it a bicycle? A scooter? Cruiser? Motocross bike?

Lots of design opportunities to define an identity or design language for this hybrid product category.

Would you pay $28 for this mug?

I was pretty shocked at the price of this mug. The finish looks great, but for $28, I’m not so sure. You?

Presentation on Personal Branding: How to be a (Fill in the Blank) Superstar?

I was invited to speak at a Bloggers only session called “Your Blog: How to Market your Blog like a Brand”. This little cozy get together was organized by Pat, Tania and Brian from Ogilvy’s Open Room home of the 360 Digital Influence Team.

I had an opportunity to be in the company of a number of great speakers including Jon YongFook, “The Dude” behind ToysREvil and Arti, a former journalist, from Ogilvy. All in all it was a great experience and nice to give back to the local blogging community.

I have been invited and accepted a position at Philips Design Singapore as The Senior Design Manager in charge of the Home Cinema Sound, Home Video and Home Controller business portfolios. It is a design management position which finds me managing design programs for internal Philips clients.

I’m sure there will be many exciting times to come!

“What is Design?” Workshop

On August 16, 2006 I presented “What is Design?” at the Invent Singapore Conference 2008: Design for Life workshop. I had a really great time as we had a really friendly audience that asked great questions.

What is Design?

I designed the slide show not as a Design definition exercise. Far from that. In fact designers are still debating on what design really is. This presentation was really more about looking at design on a holistic level and how design like the subject itself is constantly evolving. Not only that, the focus of the presentation was more about creating a design mindset for inventors to understand what design can do for them.
